20 Apr A Close Look to Indian Handloom Sarees at Jharonka
Being an art lover, I always like everything which is handmade with lots of love and nowadays I am love with handloom sarees. Saree in India is a traditional attire for women which is worn along with a blouse and draped around the body. In South India, women drape the top pleats from right to left and some of the North Indian women wear from left to right. It is 5 to 8 meters long and can be worn in a number of ways based on the saree type and the design.
Indian women are wearing sarees since like forever but most of the Indian women now may have moved towards western outfits because of the comfort factor. But you know, we still love to wear our traditional saree and a makeover for parties, functions, festivals, family get together and of course the temple visits. Handloom sarees are my all-time favorite because it actually gives a feeling of being into traditions over time. Handloom sarees are made by craftsperson with gorgeous and unique designs from a small scale industry in India which is actually created for the welfare of the rural people.
Crafts persons wandered threads in vertical-shaft looms powered by hand all the way to make a perfect saree for us. The completion of an authentic handloom saree may take a couple of weeks based on the saree design and zari pattern in it.
I am sure this would really amaze you to know that there are more than 70 different types of handloom sarees found across the country which is further distinguished on the basis of fabric and weaving style. The few prominent ones are:-
Banarasi – Banarasi sarees took its name from the place Kasi/Varanasi/Banaras (holy city of India) which are also known as Benaras Pattu/ Banaras silk. Banarasi type handloom sarees are made with finely woven Kattan silk fabrics with complex design patterns.
