7 Days Itinerary For Leh-Ladakh Trip From New Delhi

Hi,

Today I will take you to an itinerary of 8 days trip in Leh-Ladakh. We were 5 friends all are from different places – one from Mumbai, one of Meghalaya, Two of us from Delhi & one from Leh itself. We started our journey to Leh-Ladakh from Gurgaon on 27th April 2017. Our local friend from Leh took us all around to unexplored places in Leh Ladakh & we stayed at his home during our journey in Leh.

Day 1 – We headed towards Leh town & took a rest for the whole day as you need at least 24 hours to get used to the altitude and oxygen levels which mean actually no activity or site seeing. Some people may get sick due to low oxygen levels and altitude & also can have problems like headaches, nausea etc. So your body needs rest to acclimatize. it is highly recommended to stay hydrated & listen to your body, stop when your body feels tired or breathless.

Day 2 – We started our day with Leh traditional bread in breakfast with local butter tea. So, we decided to cover few local points like Thiksey Monastery, Leh Palace, Hemis Monastery, 3 Idiots shooting location (school scene), Shanti Stupa, and some unexplored local places like a small oldest wooden bridge and finally Leh market in the evening.

Day 3 – We rented bikes from Leh town & headed towards Alchi Monastery. On the way to Alchi Monastery, we drove to Magnetic hills, visited Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and Sangam Valley.

Day 4 – By continuing this relaxed yet adventurous Leh trip, we started from Leh to Pangong Lake which is around 160km via Changla Pass (17,000 ft.) which is world’s third highest motorable road. Pangong Lake is on the Indo-China border & has become famous after the tremendous success of 3 idiots. The way was laden with amazing sceneries of never ending Himalayan mountain ranges. We stayed in Redstart Camp in Pangong Lake, Spangmik, Ladakh & when we woke up in the morning we realized that the water has frozen in the bucket, tabs, even in the pots*** itself. And we managed to success & had a fun time anyway!

Day 5 – We started for Nubra valley from Pangong Lake which is actually not a usual route. People usually take a route like this Leh >> Pangong Lake >> Leh >> Nubra Valley >> Leh but we got success to take this route (Leh >> Pangong Lake >> Nubra Valley >> Leh) only because of our Ladakhi friend – Stanzin. Personally, I will not recommend taking the route which we followed because road condition on that route is not good. (You can find that in my Leh-Ladakh vlog listed below).

Day 6 – Came back to Leh town via Khardung La Pass which is around 18, 000 ft. It is world’s highest motorable pass. Took rest for rest of the day.

Day 7 – 3 idiots movie has given a huge business to Leh-Ladakh which is only known for tourists places but still, there are few places which are unexplored. So, we explored a place called Gyab Thago Heritage Home in Stok Village & Matho Monastery in Leh. In, Gyab Thago Heritage Home in which a family has preserved 200 years old ornaments, kitchen utensils, dresses and many more things.

Anyone can follow this itinerary to make their trip enjoyable & memorable. June to August is the good time to travel in Leh-Ladakh.
